On October 2nd, 2024 Cape Coral High School’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Ambassadors hosted an IB Fall Social from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. in the cafeteria.
The IB Ambassadors encouraged IB students to come enjoy some food and hang out with their classmates, hopefully bringing new opportunities for people to meet new people within their school.
“It’s just kind of a neat way for them to just kind of be able to hang out and have some fun together,” stated Katelyn Uhler, Cape High’s IB Coordinator.
When in high school, you have to have a good balance between school and fun, and this event helped implement some of the fun into a school environment.
Hannah Green, a senior at Cape High, is the president of socials within the IB ambassador program, and she and her team all came up with the idea to host a Fall IB social for the IB students.
“We came up with the idea at our IB master meeting, and we really wanted to have kind of a fall social, something themed,” stated Green.
Andrew Jaglal, a sophomore who is also in IB ambassadors, agreed with Green, stating, “We just brainstormed ideas all together and we were throwing ideas around until we got to the idea of the IB Fall social.”
They had games and food that were all set up and ready to go once the final bell rang for the school day to make sure they were prepared for all the kids who came to this social event, and it had a really good turnout.
Everywhere you looked there was laughter and smiles all across the cafeteria as well as the outside patio.
“I think it was probably one of the best that I’ve seen because they had a lot of fun games, and it was fall themed, there was ring toss, cornhole, and some people even brought in their own board games,” stated Uhler.
The IB social definitely had an impact on the students, especially considering the fact some students even brought in their own things to enjoy this time with their friends.
“I thought it was a good idea, I think it was a great way for IB kids to interact and get to know more of the other people they don’t have classes with,” explained sophomore Faith Bartomeo.
Sophomore Karen Gutierrez agreed with Bartomeo, attending the event with her friends on a whim to check it out and they ended up having a lot of fun being there.
“My friends and I went out of curiosity and it turned out to be really fun and we enjoyed it. There was food and games and we all sat at a picnic table on the patio and talked and had a lot of fun,” expresses Gutierrez.
The efforts of the IB ambassadors to make this happen had a fulfilling impact on the students and the IB ambassadors. “This was my first year being involved in the specific society and it was kind of a big deal for me to have that many people there and I hope that people return for the other ones,” explained Green.
It’s no secret that this event had a large impact, but it also allowed IB students to get out of their comfort zone and try something new while also having fun and enjoying food in the nice Florida fall weather.
