Love is in the air at Cape Coral High School with the “Cupid’s Ball” on Saturday, February 8th, 2025. The Student Government Association has been planning this dance for all grades to attend from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm with either friends or a significant other.
The tickets went live January 27th, 2025 for $25 for Cape High students and $30 for outside guests on GoFan. The dance is projected to be an entertaining and fulfilling night in the Cape High cafeteria.
“I’m the class sponsor so I’m the one with the SGA Class of 2027 officer students, they are to set up the dance details, attend the event, set up the location, entertainment, cost of tickets, the various forms, decorations, snacks, drinks, and promotion of the event,” stated Alana Watson, class of 2027 sponsor.
Watson oversees the event planning, but ultimately it is up to the whole of SGA to plan all the details for the night as she is not the only person responsible for this event. Amanda Rangel is the president of the class of 2027 for SGA. “We have everything organized, we budgeted everything, and then we made lists of everything we need and just plan through that.”
SGA is where all of the school dances get organized and without them, the Cupid’s Ball wouldn’t be possible. Rangel also expressed her excitement towards the upcoming dance, “We have had other dances but I’m pretty sure that this is the first Valentine’s themed dance we have put on.”
Another person involved in the planning of the dance is the communications director of SGA, Aeris Romero. “We decided to have a love-themed dance this year and came up with a list of everything we would need to be able to put the dance together.”
The behind-the-scenes is just as important as the fact that SGA shows the night of the dance as it shows the dedication that SGA gives to put on the dance for students, and it doesn’t go unnoticed.
“I think the Class of 2027 sophomores are doing an excellent job; they are working super hard to bring it all together and working fantastically as a team. They are the real MVPs,” stated Watson.
The turnout for Cupid’s Ball is projected to be fairly good compared to the winter formal that SGA put on last year.
“My hope for the turnout would be good because I would want everyone to come. This is the first high school dance I’ve ever put on so I don’t know yet, so we’ll see,” stated Watson.
“We are hoping for a good turnout, and I think that’s what we will get because who doesn’t love Valentine’s Day, That’s why we centered it around Valentine’s, to draw more people in,” stated Romero.
The Cupid’s Ball is also a good opportunity to allow kids an excuse to get out of the house and dress up, an opportunity to take their minds off school for a while. “ A lot of people don’t like being at home and like to go out with friends, and this gives them an excuse to hang out with their friends,” stated Rangel.
It seems there is a positive outlook on the dance, but as always, there are some people who aren’t planning on attending.
Natasha Christopher, a sophomore at Cape High said, “I’m not going to the Cupid’s Ball because I have to save money for Valentine’s gifts, and none of my friends are going so I don’t want to go alone.”
“I’m not going to the dance because I don’t have many friends going and I don’t have the time,” stated Addison Quercia, a sophomore at Cape High.
“ I am not going because none of my friends are going and I don’t have a date either,” stated Brogan Stapleton, a junior at Cape High.
All in all the students have mixed feelings about the dance, but there are still a good amount of people who planned to attend.
