For students looking to gain service hours while simultaneously working to improve the world, Interact Club is the perfect place to begin. All a student needs to do is fill out and turn in a club participation form before attending a meeting; meetings are on the first Monday of every month.
Interact Club is a Cape Coral Rotary Club branch, making it an international club. In Interact Club, students complete several community service activities throughout the year. This club aims to improve our communities and benefit the world through its various service projects.
Students in Interact Club gain community service hours that can later be used when applying for scholarships, such as the BrightFutures Scholarship. It also serves as a way for students to become closer to their communities.
“Interact club is a great way for students to get involved in the community and gain service hours.” says freshman representative, Jasmine Cantu, “it has also definitely helped me step out of my comfort zone.”
Sophomore representative, Karen Gutierrez, shares that “students can benefit from this club by learning leadership skills, adopting a giving mindset and gaining volunteer hours which not only look great for scholarships and colleges but also learn new things and try something new.”
Interact Club has impacted the community in various ways, including helping out at a Visually Impaired Picnic (VIP) Picnic, where students served meals to visually impaired people, participating in Alzheimer’s disease walks, and helping in Trunk-or-Treats. Interact Club is constantly doing service around the community and looking to improve the world one step at a time.
The Vice President, Sarah Solomon, shares the former accomplishments of the interact club, “In the past, interact club has volunteered at numerous community events and festivals, has won scholarships for students, and organized drives such as socktober to donate goods.“
The most recent service project is the creation of PAWsitive Change. For this project, Interact Club is looking to collect new pet toys to donate to Cape Coral Animal Shelter. This began on January 6th and will be going on until March 14th. All donations can go to Mrs. Engh in room 113, or Mrs. Recupito in room 148.
For the future, Interact Club is looking to change the world through local projects. Their motto is, “Think globally and act locally!” Soloman further states that “we want to conduct more drives, fundraisers, and events that will benefit our school, our community, and global efforts.“
If students are scared of becoming part of this community, there’s no need to worry as many think “it’s like being a part of a smaller community in the school that is very welcoming and warm and full of kind people.” said Gutierrez
Desirae Moe, sophomore InterActor, agrees with this stating that “being in the club is amazing. The community we have built within Interact Club is beyond anything I’ve ever had. I love going to the meetings. I love doing what we do and it’s just an amazing experience.”
