Valentine’s Day is full of love, gifts, and cute notes to give to your significant other. And that’s all wonderful unless you’re single. Out of all of the holidays, Valentine’s Day is the worst to be single and that’s a fact, especially at school.
Walking around school and seeing all the generic gifts like chocolate, teddy bears, a love note, flowers and so much more definitely makes you feel single for sure. And not only that, the gifts aren’t even original. People could at least come up with something creative for once.
It especially sucks when you go to your class and see everyone’s desks filled with gifts from their valentines that look like Hallmark exploded everywhere and then, you look at your desk, wondering where your Valentine’s gift is. The desk definitely feels like a minimalist’s dream because of how empty it is.
Sometimes, Valentine’s Day can bring unwanted pressure to singles to get into a relationship. And it’s not even the actual day; it’s the entire month leading up to it. Some think, ‘Oh wait, I need to get a date before Valentine’s Day,’ or ‘How am I even supposed to enjoy the day of love with nobody.’ Having that unwanted pressure on a day of love isn’t ideal.
On top of all that, even watching your single friends get asked to be somebody’s girlfriend or boyfriend is like watching a horror movie while having your eyes stuck open and they won’t close. It’s even worse on Valentine’s Day
Another thing that sucks about being single on Valentine’s Day, is quite literally the love aspect. Watching all the love go around from couple to couple for six and a half hours makes people wonder where their love is, and all they get is a lollipop from their teacher.
Not only does being single on Valentine’s Day at school sucks, but even being at home, there’s no escape. You go on Instagram or TikTok and see your friends posting about their amazing Valentine’s gifts from their amazing partners. Makes you wonder where your bae basket is.
And the cherry on top of it all, the dreaded Valentine’s dance being hosted. Don’t get it twisted, the Valentine’s dance is super fun and usually annual, but for the singles, maybe not so much. Sometimes when there is a Valentine’s dance, nobody wants to show up single even if they go with their friends. People generally feel out of place in these circumstances.
If you go to a Valentine’s dance single, why are you even there? As mentioned before, sure it would be fun, but what would you even do there without a boyfriend or girlfriend to dance the night away with? I’ll take sleeping with my stuffed animal and watching silly rom-coms on Netflix over going to a dance single.
Nevertheless, being single on Valentine’s Day isn’t all bad, there are always cute photos to take with your friends or giving gifts to your best friend, but there is always a hint of unhappiness when single on Valentine’s Day, and it isn’t always the best feeling in the world, but another year won’t hurt for us singles.
