With the month of love approaching, Valentine’s Day is coming just around the corner and Cape Coral High School’s Key Club is planning on showing its love to the school’s faculty and staff by giving out Valentine’s Day-themed cards.
Key Club is also one of the largest community service programs. Yearbook teacher, Sthepany Bendezu, the Key Club sponsor, said, “I think that our school is very privileged to be a part of Key Club as it is a club where many kids around the world also partake in.”
Key Club gets involved in the community in a variety of ways. It is also very active when it concerns being involved in the school. But the club’s impact does not end there. The members also partake in different community service projects and activities throughout the year.
“We get involved in the school community through a plethora of activities and volunteering. During the school year, we participate in blood drives by facilitating sign-ups and helping sign people in. We also conduct several drives such as period products to contribute to school organizations like Care For All. Part of what we do is also recognize teachers and provide them with cards and gifts during the holidays. In the past we’ve done candy cane reindeers for the cleaning and lunch staff, Halloween goodie bags and bookmarks for staff, and Mother’s Day gifts for teachers,” stated the president of Key Club, Sophia Dupeyron
The Valentine’s Day cards are mostly a small way to give thanks to the school staff and administrators. “We want to give out these cards to teachers and admin to show our appreciation for them. We try to do small projects like these consistently every year,” said Key Club secretary Ryan Dong.
Duperyon said that the goal of giving out Valentine’s Day cards and other small gifts is also to just put a smile on the teachers’ and administrations’ faces. Duperyon said, “Whether it’s a kind message, compliment, or just a thank you, we hope to bring a smile to a staff member’s face. We eventually put all the cards in the teachers’ mailboxes.”
Students often tend to overlook the crucial role that teachers and administrators play when it comes to providing a good educational experience. This is why it is a good thing to remind them of their importance. Duperyon said, “By creating Valentine’s Day cards we’re hoping to share appreciation and love to our staff members who are constantly contributing to our education. It is very easy for teachers to be overlooked at times and that’s why it’s important for us to make sure they know they are appreciated through kind reminders like these.”
