Cape Coral High School had two cheerleaders take part in an amazing opportunity. University of Cheerleaders Association (UCA) All-American program is the program in which an individual award is given to those who display superior technical skills, leadership, and strong personal values. This is an award given after trying out for UCA All-American during the camp that occurs over the summer. Layla Sambrato and Reagan Guida, Cape Coral High School cheerleaders, got picked by the UCA instructors during the camp.
Sambrato and Guida had the option to either go to London or New York to represent Cape Coral High School. They both decided to go to London to participate in London’s New Year’s parade, and both said they felt very honored to get picked and have the chance to represent Cape High. They performed from December 26th to January 2nd.
Gudia decided to go to London because she said “My ancestors are from England and I wanted to see where my history started.”
They did not go to London only to perform, but they had some amazing opportunities as well. Gudia said “While we were up there we also learned some of London’s history, we learned about the prisoners in the tower of London and how even then social class made a difference in how you were punished. I was able to see Queen Elizabeth At St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle to pay my respects. I also learned how to use a subway for the first time which was really cool to experience”
Guida said her favorite part was not just being able to explore London and learn the history but also spending time with her mom and the new friends she made.
Sambrato also said she enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her mom while she was up there. She truly enjoyed getting to explore the different architecture and how different everything looked from her normal life.
Sambrato said ”We learned a new routine prior to going, I personally really like the routine. I think it went well together, and then that’s the routine we performed at the parade.”
Sambrato also was very interested to learn about the history of London.”The goal of going was to experience something new and to participate in something bigger than just a cheer team, Cape Coral has never had cheerleaders try out for All-American so it was also cool to be the first ones to represent our school.”
It was such an honor for both of them to go and represent Cape High. They both said it was such an amazing opportunity and would do it over and over again, without regret.
