On February 8th, 2025, the Cape Coral High School’s Student Government Association hosted the Cupid’s Ball. The dance took place in the cafeteria of Cape High, transforming the space into a vibrant room filled with couples and friends alike, who danced the night away in celebration of Valentine’s Day.
Alana Watson, a sponsor for the class of 2027, remarked on the impressive job the students did in organizing the Cupid’s Ball. “I feel the students did an excellent job of setting up the Cupid’s Ball Valentine’s Day dance. It was a happy, warmhearted, and fun-loving event, we had an awesome DJ,” she said, emphasizing the success of the evening.
Watson supervised the event, ensuring that the students remained on track for the planning of the evening but execution relied mainly on the students themselves.
The overall reaction among the student organizers was one of overall positive pride and accomplishment. Despite the challenges and stress that came with planning the event, they felt confident in the success of the outcome.
Sophomore Amanda Rangel expressed her thoughts, stating, “It was a lot of work that was put into it, and it was kind of stressful, but we were able to get it done, and I think it executed very well.” She notes the group’s organizational skills, showing their commitment to the event.
Guests at the dance saw these efforts and reported an unforgettable experience regardless of the stress of the planners. Attendee Maryssa Lamb recalled, “Even though my boyfriend couldn’t make it, my friends and I still had tons of fun.” Many attendees described the evening as exciting, there was a unanimous desire to return next year.
Sean O’Donnell, who attended the dance and is also a member of the Student Government Association, mentioned that while he did not plan much of the event because of his involvement in other aspects of SGA, he still had a great time, ”It was good. I think we could have had a little bit more people, but other than that I think it was pretty nice.” This sentiment about attendance appeared to be a common discussion point between guests, some said that a larger turnout might have made the dance better.
A recurring theme of feedback from attendees was the DJ’s performance, many mentioned appreciation for the DJ. Aiko Davis passionately exclaimed “The DJ, that DJ was fire.” This collective appreciation for the DJ seemed to be the highlight of the event.
Some suggestions for improvement were also voiced. Sophia Santos noted, “There could have been improvements at the photo booth. There wasn’t really, like a place to put your phone.”
As the Student Government Association reflects on the various responses, they are prepared to take both positive and negative feedback for the events to come. This year was the foundation, laid for years to come, creating an even more memorable experience for the planners, as well as the attendees. The organizers are eager to bring everyone together again very soon.
