Lacrosse is an exciting sport where players throw and catch a ball with a curved stick to score in the net. Cape Coral High School is involved in this sport, with the 2025 season underway. The team has played six games, achieving 4 wins and 2 losses, and they look forward to further success.
Dianne Kimble, head lacrosse coach for nearly seven years, is passionate about sharing her sport knowledge and supporting girls in athletics. “We did well last year, we went further in the district tournament than we have ever had before, so that was a lot of fun and I hope that we can go even further this year. Our biggest goal is to go further and to build a team that supports and brings each other up.”
Coach Kimble is thrilled about the upcoming season with a fresh group of girls ready to build their skills from the ground up. This clean slate sets the stage for success beyond district goals, as she aims to foster a family atmosphere through the sport.
Laura Gross, a freshman on the lacrosse team, shared her excitement: “I love playing lacrosse because I get to have fun with my friends. I also thought it would be a fun sport to try out.” She joined to stay active after soccer, stating, “With soccer done, I figured I’d try lacrosse.” Gross aims to enhance her catching and scoring skills, hoping to score at least one goal this season.
Freshman Alexis Myers expressed, “I like playing lacrosse because it gives me something to do and I get to have fun with my friends while still being active. I was also convinced by my other friends to join. I don’t really know how to play, but I hope that as I play, I get better and can start scoring more.” She’s excited to embrace this new experience with her friends.
Sophia Vianest, a senior on the lacrosse team, took up the sport at her friends’ urging for her final year. “I enjoy the atmosphere; everyone is so joyful and encourages you to do better. It really is just a positive environment to be in, and having all my friends around me is fun; that’s probably the best part.” This season, Vianest aims to enhance her catching and scoring skills, with her main goal of qualifying for regionals.
Zoee Maurillo, a sophomore on the team, said, “I personally like making mistakes so I can learn from them. I love playing with my friends; most everyone from soccer joined lacrosse, so it was exciting.” She added, “My biggest goal this season is to go to regionals. I really want my team to go to regionals.” Maurillo values the coaches for their kindness and support during her challenges. The team is looking forward to a fantastic year and achieving their goals together.
As the season begins, the Cape High lacrosse team is brimming with excitement and determination. With dedicated coaches and an excited group of players, they are set on not only achieving their personal goals but creating a supportive community where everyone can thrive and grow to enjoy the sport together.
