One of Florida’s biggest attractions is Disney World. Each year, select Cape Coral High School students, specifically the dance team, the Hawkettes, are allowed to go. This year, though, students from other clubs have also been allowed to go.
It’s tradition for the Hawkettes to go each year to Disney’s Magic Kingdom as part of a field trip. The Flock Shop, run by Stacey Green, is the one that makes their shirts for the trip. Green liked how the Hawkettes got a reward trip for their hard work and believed her students deserved the same. “I wanted an opportunity for my Flock Shop students to join in the fun. They work so hard creating all the merchandise, so I just wanted to join in with them,” said Green.
In previous years, the Hawkettes would travel in vans over to Disney, so with the additional students coming, a charter bus was agreed upon. This facilitated extra spots for other students, which is where the Student Government Association (SGA) comes into play. “We know that the SGA students also work really hard all year, and that’s why we wanted to invite them as well,” explained Green.
SGA is a large club with 6 Executive Board Officers, 28 Class Officers, and students-at-large. Executive Board Officers were guaranteed to go, so they hand-selected students from each class and students-at-large to go with them as well. “We selected students who we thought were extremely hard working and always willing to help. They have earned it,” said Executive Board President of SGA, Madison Lison.
This trip is a token of appreciation given to the students for the effort they put into their clubs. “It was just an opportunity for our students [Flock Shop, SGA, and Hawkettes] who are very involved and dedicate a lot of extra time to have, like a little reward, so that they can go and enjoy,” said Green.
Each club will have its shirt designs with its club name and Cape High on them as well. “The process is going really well. Everyone is really excited to be able to go and can’t wait to spend time at Disney with each other,” said Lison. The field trip is set to take place on March 28th, where students will leave Cape High at 6:00 am and return at 11:00 pm.
Students from the different clubs have expressed their excitement and gratefulness for being able to go. “I’m very honored to have been chosen to go on this trip. I think the SGA officers and sponsors work very hard throughout the year planning events for the entire school, and this trip is a way to thank them for all their hard work,” said Ana Luiza Guimaraes, a Student-at-Large of the Sophomore SGA class.
The students believe this trip is a way for all the members of each club to spend time together, have fun, and truly get to know each other. “I love Disney and I love being able to spend time with the other students in SGA,” explained Aeris Romero, Communications Director of the Sophomore SGA class.
Allison Kearney, a member of the Hawkettes, hopes to enjoy this time with her team and take this chance to have fun. “I’m very grateful that we are able to go on this field trip, it’s going to be a great trip as a team.”
