In the buildup for the album, there were billboards across the US put up, with some billboards stating SORRY 4 DA WAIT, a message from Carti referring to him waiting nearly five years before releasing his newest album. In early 2024, he released a series of singles in which he would repeat “2024 music”, leading to fans speculating his album to be released in 2024, but in the end, he would release the album nearly a year later, angering many fans.
There were lots of features on the album, including: Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Skepta, The Weeknd, Travis Scott, Ty Dolla $ign, Young Thug, and Kendrick Lamar. Not only were the features stacked, but the production team was beyond what was imaginable. The team that put the album together consists of Metro Boomin, F1lthy, Wheezy, Maaly Raw, BNYX, and many more.
Carti and the features worked well together, but Future really showed his skill on the album. At 41 years old and after having been in the rap game for decades, he is still at the top. In the song TRIM, Future really showed off skill and versatility when he switched his flow multiple times throughout the track.
RATHER LIE, the most popular song off the album, featured The Weeknd and ended up gaining virality on TikTok. It’s pretty obvious why the song gained the most attention, as it has the most melodic sound with its cloudy, mellow instrumental. The Weeknd sings the chorus and Carti delivers some melodic verses, which is a sound that allows for casual listeners as well as his dedicated fans to enjoy.
The song EVIL J0RDAN is just one of the songs from the series of singles that Playboi Carti released in 2024, and it is the second most popular song on the album. This was one of the first songs in which Carti used his deep voice. The song has no hook or chorus and is just a barrage of bars after bars, which goes to show why it has become a fan favorite.
MUSIC earned 298,000 copies in the first week it was released and landed on the number 1 spot on the US Billboard 200. It spent 2 weeks at the number 1 spot. The album is filled with hits, great production, and unforgettable features, so this album definitely marks a great comeback for Playboi Carti and shows his fans that he’s here to stay.
