SunSplash Family Waterpark has long been a fixture for teenagers living in Cape Coral and throughout Lee County since its opening in 1992. It has traditionally served as the go-to destination for summer socializing among friends.
However, to be honest, SunSplash is rather overhyped. Most visit simply because it’s the only water park in Cape Coral, especially in a city that lacks many other entertainment options.
The park only features 11 slides, with just a few of them offering any real thrill, along with a lazy river and a splash zone intended for young children. This limited variety explains the park’s popularity among elementary and middle school children.
One major concern is the outrageous admission price for what it offers. An all-day pass for adults costs a staggering $38. This seems excessive for a few hours of mediocre fun at a waterpark.
Food at SunSplash is equally overpriced, and what is made available is disappointingly average. Visitors can expect standard food such as burgers, hot dogs, French fries, pizza, and chicken dippers. In fact, it would be cheaper to purchase the ingredients for these meals elsewhere.
Additionally, a significant portion of the staff, from concessions to security to lifeguard patrol, are teenagers who often appear disengaged. This lack of supervision contributes to a host of issues that distract from the overall experience at Sun Splash.
The park has also become notorious for the drama and disturbances that occur. Instances of teens sneaking in contraband have made it an unsafe environment for younger visitors, which is who SunSplash is marketed towards. What should be a family-friendly location has increasingly developed a reputation for being toxic and unwelcoming.
Sun Splash has also gained a reputation for being an unsanitary establishment. The bathrooms often fall short of cleanliness, and the lazy river is frequently reported to be unappealing, with a concerning amount of grime accumulating at the bottom of the river and slides, leaving the water looking murky..
Overall, SunSplash Family Waterpark is not a place I would recommend. If the park hopes to attract visitors, significant improvements and changes are needed to enhance the overall experience.
