As the Cape High Class of 2029 students officially begin their first year of high school, they have now voted for, and elected, their Student Government Association (SGA) Class Officers. Eight freshmen students have now taken the responsibility of ensuring that the Class of 2029 has a fun year full of events and student spirit.
Antonella Flores, President of the Class of 2029 and a Pre-IB student shares some insight on why she chose to run for President. “Growing up, my voice wasn’t heard as much as other people’s, and I don’t think anybody else should go through that. I wanted to make other people’s voices feel heard.”
Flores is planning to focus on ensuring that she listens to what the students want, and voices their opinions to administration.
“[I want to] just represent the Class of 2029’s voice and make everybody feel included.” Partnering with Flores is Nevaeh Turner, the Class of 2029 Vice President.
“I want to better the freshmen class and I want every kid to have a voice who wants to plan and do something, and I just want to make sure that the freshmen have a great school year,” said Turner. She believes her previous experience as her middle school’s National Junior Honor Society Vice President and being a part of the Lead Like a Girl organization will help her excel in her new role.
The officers have begun to work towards their goals for this year, one including growing their social reputation, “I want to grow the social media page, make it more known, and have all the freshmen know what’s happening,” said Pedro Storion, a Pre-IB student and Communications Director.
Storion chose this position, inspired by his mother who is a social media manager for several companies. “It would be fun to work together and she could help me if I don’t understand something,” said Storion.
Another goal they have is just to make this an entertaining and amazing experience for the freshmen. “I want to make sure that everything’s fun and everyone has something to do,” said Turner. “Mainly do what [the students] want so I can make sure that they’re having a good year.”
Being a part of SGA isn’t just about helping the students, it’s about helping the community as well. Mario Juarez, the Community Service Director is motivated to ensure that everyone is helped. Juarez is nervous for this new role he’s taken upon himself but is going to do his best to assist the Class of 2029
Another newly elected class officer is Isabella Garcia, the new Outreach Director. Her job is to reach out to the freshmen class to find out what they want so she can alert the rest of the officers to give the freshman class the best year possible.
Tianie Luccioni is now also part of SGA, but unlike the other 7 officers, she isn’t a class officer. As the Executive Board Freshmen Representative her position is different from the rest. Being a part of the Executive Board means her actions directly affect the school.
“I want to make this school better for everyone and listen to what everyone wants and needs,” said Luccioni.
While adjusting to high school life, these freshmen have decided to join SGA while also juggling other after school activities like Key Club, Best Buddies, DECA, Soccer, and Football. These freshmen can do it all, giving their community and the school the best year possible.
