Online testing is the downfall of the school’s testing systems. With students having the ability to cheat using phones or new cheating apps being created, online testing scores should be considered flat out inaccurate.
While grading online tests may be easier for the teachers and schools giving out the test, grading assessments like essays or typed word questions can make students lose points due to poor online grading.
Online test-taking causes lots of stress for students, one of many reasons are students not being able to focus unless the test is directly in front of them. Loads of students need to have the test directly with them for things such as guiding themselves when reading the information provided or solving problems on paper during these tests.
Technical issues are starting to become a major problem during online test taking. Internet connections randomly go out during online exams giving all of the students taking the exams stress due to having to redo or reschedule when the tests erase or don’t start to begin with.
Malfunctions throughout test taking such as servers crashing or errors due to multiple people taking the same test is an issue lots of people worry about when getting started taking online tests.
Not all students are familiar with how to use technology to operate these tests since they are having to figure out how to navigate through them. Problems like not knowing how to submit the assignments or use the test taking features often make students get incorrect answers with no way of getting assistance.
Online test security is lacking frequently, which is a big disadvantage for students and teachers. Tons of students are not having to learn the material and just being able to cheat and move past it without gaining any knowledge. While all the teachers are giving good grades to students who have no clue how to even start the assignment without cheating.
Personal information being used is a concern to many students and families when testing since the test takers may be required to provide information to start the test such as their name, email address, and date of birth. Many students worry about protecting their information from people they don’t know.
Home lives are also not thought about when having to do online testing and school work from home since not all students have reliable internet access or to a computer at home. Not all students get the chance or time to have a quiet home environment that is distraction free for test taking which gives a disadvantage since it doesnt let them show their full potential unlike taking a paper test in a quiet classroom environment.
A huge drawback when it comes to online testing is teachers and students not having a personal interaction being able to give clear communication and instructions when taking these tests. Tests being taken on pen and paper gives the opportunity to get help on questions that the students don’t understand unlike having to have the feeling of being unsupported when taking a test online.
