Since March 2020, states and nations have undergone lockdowns and have taken a surplus of precautionary measures in regards to the COVID-19 outbreak. After nearly a year of wearing masks, social distancing, and quarantining, a vaccine has been released.

Though it can typically take years for a vaccine to be created and approved, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has a sought out process of getting vaccinations approved for public use.

There has been some controversy regarding whether or not one should receive the vaccination or not. For the sake of the public, the vaccine should be deemed necessary for citizens and others alike in order to ensure the safety and speedy recovery of the global society.

Here in Lee County, as of January 20th, 2021 vaccines are available at local Publix’s upon appointments reserved online. People eligible to receive it currently are those 65 years of age, older along with healthcare workers, staff and residents of those in long-term care facilities, and those who are extremely vulnerable to contracting the disease. Soon enough it’ll be wide spread and everyone can receive it if they please.

Benefits of getting the vaccine include the prevention of spreading the disease and contracting the disease. It is possible that the disease can cause serious life threatening complications. There is a possibility that the vaccine could offer immunity from the disease by creating antibodies within one’s immune system.

With the prevention of the spreading of the disease, people are able to save others who have weakened immune systems and are susceptible to contracting the disease. By getting vaccinated, people are potentially saving the lives of others. Since the outbreak, there have been 24.5million COVID cases and 406,000 COVID-related deaths in the United States. With the vaccination it is sure to bring down the number of deaths.

Some may say that it is risky getting the vaccine due to how fast it was developed and released, but there have not been serious implications as a result of receiving the vaccine.

Though it is limited in supply in the United States, the vaccination is currently free to the public as it is paid for by the tax-payers.

It is of utmost importance that people take the advantage of getting the vaccination. It may prove itself to be quite the blessing in regard to world health. Not only will it benefit oneself, but it will also help allow for others to be safe.

All in all, it is quite apparent that everyone would like to go back to how things were before the COVID-19 outbreak; a normalized society free of wearing masks and lock downs. The sooner people get their vaccinations, the sooner society can function efficiently and return to normalcy.
