The partnership between NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros has made numerous outstanding fighting games throughout the years. The collaboration of these two game-making studios has made a fighting franchise that has aged like fine wine.

Mortal Kombat has formed a divine legacy throughout the years, and with the release of Mortal Kombat 1, it is easy to say that NetherRealm studios and Warner Bros hit it out of the park.

If there was any trailer that left fans drooling and daydreaming about the full release, it was the trailer for Mortal Kombat 1. Not only did the trailer reintroduce many fan favorite characters such as Smoke, Kenshi, Cyrax, and more, the game just looked stunning overall.

The art along with the effects looked amazing, and the gameplay shown enabled fans to see the combo potential the game has. Overall, the trailer made the game look perfect. Though some fans have some negative thoughts about the new concept of “kameo characters”, (secondary characters that assist the fight) there was really nothing to complain about in the trailer.

However, a common misconception is that the trailer never ends up looking like the real game. After playing the early access of Mortal Kombat 1, it’s safe to say that the trailer accurately represents the real game.

Not only were the graphics in the game beautiful, but it also had smooth gameplay, amazing-looking combos, and of course newer, more gruesome fatalities.

Unlike Mortal Kombat 11, Mortal Kombat 1 introduced the concept of air combos and kameo characters. The kameo characters were typically hated on by a select few, however, when in-game the kameo characters revealed game-changing strategies.

Each kameo character has its different moves, and players can call them anytime for a quick hit or set up when the kameo character is loaded. The concept of the kameo character is very versatile to players, considering that they all have different moves that can either zone attack your opponent, or set up and assist your combo.

It’s definitely something that will take time for players to get used to, however, over time players will get a feel for this new concept.

With air combos reintroduced back into the game, gameplay just feels amazing. Though it may be difficult to hit combos consistently considering the requirement for more inputs, hitting opponents in the air multiple times gives players pure satisfaction.

With the new kameo characters and air combos, it enables players to have creative concepts when playing. Such as finding what kameo characters are good with your main character, and finding new combos that now involve the air.

Mortal Kombat has always been known for its crossovers with other famous franchises. After releasing playable characters such as Joker, Rambo, Kratos, The Terminator, and RoboCop, it’s no surprise that Omni-Man, Homelander, and Peacemaker were revealed as DLC characters. With more DLCs to come, it has players wondering what new crossovers Mortal Kombat will have to offer.

Overall, Mortal Kombat 1 definitely exceeded expectations. The creativity shown in the game is unlike any other Mortal Kombat game released and is definitely one of the top games that will be released this year.
