The 2024 prom is approaching, and Cape High’s Student Government Association (SGA) has put hours into its preparation. Drawing inspiration from past prom themes, the Class of 2025 has settled on this year’s theme of “Luminous Nights.”
Prom is on April 19th from 7 PM to 11 PM at the Alderman House in Fort Myers. Tickets go on sale starting on March 25th for seniors, April 2nd for juniors, and April 10th for outside guests. Tickets are 60 dollars for seniors, 75 for juniors, and 95 for outside guests and can exclusively be purchased through GoFan.
Junior class president Adriana Jenkins explained the thought process behind choosing this year’s venue, stating, “Well, [the Alderman House] is an indoor and outdoor venue, and it’s actually bigger than the venue [the senior class] had last year. We chose it because when we were sophomore officers, we went and toured the venue they used last year and it was really small. We went with this one so we could be indoors and outdoors.”
This year’s theme is “luminous nights” and Jenkins mentioned how the final theme came to be. “The inspiration for it was the show Euphoria. We wanted to add purple and blue lights and stuff like that. It’s going to be exciting with stars and lots of lights outside. We hope it’s like really lit up. That’s what we want.”
Junior class sponsor Alana Kearney added on stating, “It’s pretty much going to be like a disco kind of theme with star decorations. It’s going to be like white, silver, and like a purplish kind of color.”
Blake Tran, outreach director and junior explained how prom themes are the most important aspect of prom. Because of this, it was critical for the planning of prom to go off without a hitch.
“We [SGA] do playlists for music, set up colors for prom and make bulletin boards to support and get people to you know make sure the theme is known,” Tran stated.
Amenities and the “vibes” of prom will be slightly different than last year according to Kearney, “We have our speakers, we have a DJ. We also have like a 360 photo booth and a regular photo booth. It’s definitely gonna be lit. It’s gonna be a vibe,” said Kearney. “We have our outreach director creating our Spotify playlist, as well. In the next couple weeks we’re going to send out a Google Form to juniors and seniors in regards to like a song request.”
Because of rising inflation costs, SGA has acknowledged the increase in ticket prices. Kearney explained that there isn’t much that can be done to lower ticket prices, “It’s more expensive, but that’s only because of inflation. Don’t blame us,” Kearney said. “We’re fundraising as much as we can but due to inflation and with the wants and needs of the junior class for what they want for prom, it is, you know, expensive. So we gotta do what we got to do to make sure the night is one to remember.”
However, the class of 2025 is determined to have prom go of without a hitch. Jenkins stated, “We’ve been really working hard to fundraise and we’ve raised quite a lot of money. Things would be pretty good. I think it’s going to be really good, hopefully better than any other prom you’ve ever seen.”
Likewise, Tran stated how he hopes all the hard work pays off. “I really just want to see the seniors happy with what we did for their prom. I’m excited.”
