On May 1st, 2026 in the Cape Coral High School gym, from 10 to 12 in the afternoon, Exceptional Special Education (ESE) students will be having a Hollywood themed dance. Though the excitement is there, some hardships had to be solved to get this event to happen.
The founder of the dance, Jeff Wunderlich stated “socialization is key for our kids,” and “having fun helps them learn and become better.”
The target group of students does well with hands-on experiences. Having a real dance to attend gives them the ability to feel what it feels like to go to a school dance such as homecoming.
Wunderlich said there will be “all varying types of personalities and disabilities at this event, and we’re gonna give them the ability to dance and enjoy the day and have fun together. Hopefully they’ll learn to get along with each other.”
Overall there were some complications with putting this dance to life. Wunderlich explained, “donations I think, are the most challenging thing I’ve seen so far.”
With Advertisement being the hardest challenge, the school will end up having to pay around 1000 dollars out of their own money towards the dance. While this was not ideal, students’ excitement is huge.
Olivia Bargstadt, one of the kids that are attending the dance, stated, “I am super excited for this dance. I can not wait to be able to experience the special Hollywood dance and I am happy to be able to go to this at all. I have a whole dress ready and everything.”
Bargstadt has hopes for what the dance will be. “I want them to play Taylor Swift, she is my favorite artist.”
Kevin Matos, another student attending, was also elated for the dance. “I’m a little bit excited for the dance. I mostly just wanna go with the flow of the dance and I’m not really sure what to wear to the dance or what I’m gonna do.”
Andrew Torres said “I am really excited for the dance. I know exactly what I’m gonna wear too. I’m gonna wear a leather jacket, some jeans, and leather shoes and I just wanna be able to go with the flow and dance.”
Wunderlich truly believes that this dance will be a wonderful opportunity for students to be able to learn and meet new people, collaborate, and overall have fun during a special Hollywood night.
