For the second year in a row, our Seahawk’s Varsity Football team has proven they’re a force to be reckoned with. With the help of determination, teamwork, and a season filled with standout performances, the Seahawk’s have once again clinched the district championship title – solidifying their legacy as one of the top teams in the region.
Fueled by last year’s epic triumph, the Seahawk’s entered the 2025-2026 season with one goal – defend the title. Week after week, win after win, they delivered. It’s safe to say that they outworked and outplayed every one of their opponents, beating out each team that stood in their way.
As the fireworks boomed and the players embraced each other on the field, it was clear that the Seahawk’s weren’t just playing for another banner – they were playing to cement their legacy, and to fight back for the one they lost along the way.
In order to accomplish this feat, they had to beat both Charlotte and Mariner High School.
The toughest one of these games was Charlotte, who they played on September 26th. Charlotte is a well-seasoned and talented team, so facing them was bound to be a challenging match up.
“Their offense is strong and their defense was definitely difficult to break through,” said junior player Trace Messmer.
However, the Seahawk’s came out victorious, with a 19-6 win. The high morale from this win made Mariner a breeze the next week, as the Seahawk’s skated past them, 30-7.
The Seahawk’s are more than a team, the past two years have made them into a brotherhood. This is how they play so well together. They face adversity as a team, both on and off the field. They undergo the same struggles, since they all care intensely about the game and the outcome of it.
The loss of head coach Tyler Murphy, just before the game against Island Coast was a hard hit for the players. He was a pillar of the team, but the players took this in stride and used it as motivation.
Senior Jeddly Joseph said, “ I would definitely say that the loss of coach Murphy has affected us in many ways, but when that happens we just remember that we have to push through for our guy, that’s what he would want us to do always.”
This win comes as a result of one factor; hard work. Any student can say they’ve seen the team out, morning and afternoon practicing. They have a drive like none seen before, and this drive is how they maintain their status as champions.
“You win practice, you win ballgames. What you do in practice will carry over to the game,” said assistant coach Larry Gary.
After this major win, the Seahawk’s are set to go on to the playoffs. If they succeed in the playoffs, they get the chance to compete in states, among the best in Florida.
Last year, unfortunately the Seahawk’s fell short in their playoff game against Immokalee High School. Their plan this year is to make it even farther.
Junior Nehemiah Miranda confidently said, “I think we’re definitely going to win the playoffs, because we already plan to take a relentless approach and set Santa Barbara on fire, in our playoff game right here at Cape High.”
