NASCAR is the underdog in the sports world

There is nothing more fun than seeing a bunch of grown men yelling at each other over their own cars. This is NASCAR in a nutshell. The National Association Stock Car Auto Racing is full of action and excitement that is not really seen by the general public.

NASCAR has been for the longest time, an underrated sport. Some may question if it even is a sport? According to its definition, a sport is a competitive activity in which one engages in activity against one or more people. NASCAR falls directly under this category.

Some others question whether the sport is even relevant in today’s world. The answer to that question: yes it is.

The sport is extremely overloaded with action. An example is opening to the race when the pace car leaves the track and all the stock cars accelerate to their maximum speed. The excitement rises when multiple cars turn the first corner to see who officially can take away the first place position.

Another example of the tension is when there are two racers lined up next to each other, battling for first place. Imagine your favorite racer, put up against their enemy. It is something that one truly can’t describe with words.

In more popular sports such as football and soccer, there is an event which draws the average sports’ viewer to watch; for example the superbowl or the world cup. With NASCAR, there are multiple.

NASCAR has the Daytona 500 which is a 500 mile-long race which kicks off a 36-race season. It is a 250 lap race consisting of multiple stages, keeping the viewer in their seats.

The three and a half hour long race of emotion makes sure to keep the viewers busy with drama and rivalries between the different teams and sponsors. In recent months, the Daytona 500, hosted on the 19th of February, gave multiple occasions where viewers were left to watch madness happen right before their own eyes.

Arguably, one of the most historic sporting events of all time has its title owned by NASCAR. The Brickyard 400, hosted on the notable Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is a 160 lap race, consisting of a total of 400 miles of track.

Multiple names have been recognized at the Brickyard such as the goat of NASCAR Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Joey Logano. The Brickyard 400 is full of talent.

As a result, the Brickyard 400 has become one of the most intriguing events to watch in the entirety of sports. The competition in this race is to an extent, more competitive than the Commissioner’s trophy, Larry O’Brien Trophy, and even the Superbowl.

While NASCAR may seem like 670 horsepower cars circling around an oval track, it holds much value and emotion. It is an extremely underrated sport and should be given more attention.
