Cape Coral High School offers a variety of sports for students to participate in. One of these sports is the tennis team. This year, the tennis team looks to be the best it has ever been, setting the tone for a promising future for the program.
The tennis team is being led and coached by CCHS art teacher, Melissa Phelps. The tennis season has officially begun, but if anyone is still interested in joining, there are still openings. The team is eager to welcome new members, so anyone wishing to participate should not hesitate.
Unfortunately, there has been a rapid spread of the flu among the tennis players of CCHS. As a result, athletes have been missing practices and matches. To ensure the team remains competitive, the tennis team is welcoming new players to fill those in until they recover.
The opportunity to join tennis is an exciting one and does not require previous knowledge. Coach Phelps emphasizes, “You don’t have to know how to play; you just need to have a positive attitude and a desire to learn something new, get some fresh air and come on out and exercise!”
Practices are held weekly, on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Additionally, for those looking to gain extra practice, the courts are open for free play every Friday from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
If you have the enthusiasm to be a part of the tennis team and want to experience the camaraderie and competition it offers, you will simply need to complete a few administrative steps to join. To be eligible to participate in tennis, potential members must submit the required paperwork through the athletics department.
To find the necessary forms and information, students interested in joining can navigate to the athletic section of the CCHS website. There, they will find details on the requirements to join any sports team, including tennis. This process ensures that all athletes have a fair shot at joining the team and pursuing their interest in the sport.
Every sport, even tennis, comes with its own set of challenges and areas for growth. Phelps notes, “There is always room for athletes to grow and improve their skills individually based on what they would like to work on. Tennis is a largely individual sport, so everybody brings their own strengths and weaknesses.” This focus on personal development is essential in cultivating skilled players and well-rounded individuals.
While improvements are always welcomed, they also present an opportunity for team bonding. The tennis team, along with Coach Phelps, is dedicated to helping each athlete convert their weaknesses into strengths, creating an encouraging atmosphere where everyone can thrive and enjoy the journey together.
In summary, whether you are a seasoned player or a beginner, the Cape Coral High School tennis team opens its doors, inviting all students to experience the joy of tennis, the spirit of teamwork, and the thrill of personal growth. The court is waiting!
