As we enter the final quarter of the year and good media becomes harder to find, it can be a bit discouraging to open up your streaming platform and see nothing interesting to watch. Thankfully, there are some hidden gems that not many people have checked out. Here are three shows that are definitely worth the watch.
First on the list is one of the greatest shows of all time, Prison Break. Following the story of protagonist Michael Scofield, played by Wentworth Miller, Michael sets out on a mission to escape prison with his brother, Lincoln Burrows, played by Dominic Purcell, who is on death row for a crime he didn’t commit.
While the idea sounds stale, the plot of the series is not to be slept on. The entire 5 seasons are not exactly about “prison break,” but rather the events after the initial jailbreak and beyond. Not only are there a large amount of plot twists within the series, but the character arcs are simply too good to be forgotten. For example, Theodore Bagwell, played by Robert Knepper, who has committed some of the worst crimes known to man, is somehow given the chance to redeem himself, and by the end of the series becomes a bit more respectable than before.
Taking the second-place spot is Suits, a must-watch for anyone who’s into witty main characters. The show focuses on Mike Ross, played by Patrick J. Adams, an illegitimate lawyer with a photographic memory who knows his stuff, but never got his law license. Adams’ portrayal of the underqualified rookie climbing his way up the ranks of respect was exceptional.
In addition to Adams’ acting, Gabriel Macht’s role as Harvey Specter was amazing to see side by side with Mike Ross. The dynamic duo is one of the most memorable parts of the show. While the show does get a bit unfavorable when Adams leaves the show, the final seasons still have a solid amount of watch value.
In the final spot of the list comes Black Lightning. While the CW is known for making superhero shows that suck for the most part, Black Lightning breaks the stereotype. Surrounding superhero Black Lightning, Jefferson Pierce, played by Cress Williams, undergoes the challenges of keeping his city safe and raising a family of superheroes. The plot, while not the greatest, is still notable.
One of the greatest side characters of all time, Khalil Payne, played by Jordan Calloway, was absolutely amazing to see in the show. His character arc over the four seasons was done perfectly. Starting out as the good high school teen trying to make it in sports, Khalil ends up as the mysterious metahuman trying to protect his peace after escaping his life of crime with Tobias Whale, played by Krondon. In terms of acting, Calloway completely rocked his role as Khalil and Painkiller.
While these shows may not be for everyone, they are some hard-hitting piece of media with tons of rewatch value. Even better, if action-based drama is your cup of tea, these are perfect.
