As the school year rolls around in August, there is always the big transition of going back to school that comes with having to deal with a very familiar and dreadful routine. There students are waking up at five in the morning, getting ready, and preparing themselves to spend the next eight hours stuck rotating through different classrooms. Having a four day school week would make everything so much easier.
As students are in the classrooms for the next eight hours everyday, all students can imagine and hope for is for the school day to be over. At the end of the day, all their wishing goes to waiting for Friday. Having four day school weeks instead of five should just be an obvious consideration.Â
By the time Friday comes, students are already checked out and drained from having to balance school work, sports, and after school clubs/activities. Some students even have part time jobs, and just in general have an outside life. Having to stress and worry about these things for five days straight is exhausting and students should be able to have at least one extra day off.Â
Once the weekend rolls around, in a blink of an eye it’s over and students are back to square one with having to go into the school routine once again. A two day break is not enough for students to be fully relaxed and at ease. There’s not much you can do over the weekend and to have the cherry on top, some students have teachers that assign work over the weekend.Â
As if being in school for five days isn’t enough, some teachers just have to pile on the work. Students seriously don’t get enough credit as deserved, as having five days straight of the same thing is tiring.Â
High schoolers today already have to face an overwhelming amount of pressure and stress. Between having to take advanced placement classes, to being in higher programs such as IB (International Baccalaureate), all of this literally sucks the soul out of them. There are so many expectations that they have to succeed and live up to and it all becomes a lot.Â
If students had these four day weeks, they wouldn’t have to worry as much about all of the stress and humongous workloads of things teachers are assigning. It’ll be as if an extra brick is being lifted from students shoulders if they had an extra day taken off.Â
Not only does all of the workload and stress come into play, but if we had four school days instead of five, it is a guarantee that students’ attendance would be much more cooperative. If we had fewer school days in the week that would help the school staff and district in having to not worry about attendance problems. It would make students not want to skip school knowing that the school week would go by more effectively and quicker.Â
Having four day school weeks just makes more sense and clearly would help a lot in many different aspects. There are so many benefits that everyone just seems to be overlooking and we need to get the school board to reconsider these decisions as soon as possible.
