Outside prom venue poses potential problems

Prom is a time that most juniors and seniors in high school look forward to from the first day of school. As the end of the 2024 school year is right around the corner, the prom planning and preparation has begun.

The most important part of planning prom is the venue. Where is the best place to have it and what place in the area is big enough to comfortably fit the amount of students?

For the past few years, prom at Cape Coral High School has been held in locations that were mainly outside. These venues are not completely outside, but the main areas to hangout with friends and dance are out in the Florida heat.

Considering how hot it gets in Florida, especially in the middle of April, how come they continue to make prom an outside dance?

Yes, homecoming is also held outside at the front of Cape High, but the weather begins to cool off and everyone is within the dress code in short dresses. This makes the idea of an outside homecoming not so unbearable.

Even while guys wear their button up lightweight shirts, they’re left with room to breathe and not get so hot and sweaty.

On the other hand, prom is known to have an attire of long pretty dresses for the girls and a coat and tie for the boys. Now, speaking for the girls, a long dress is uncomfortable to wear as is, and only becomes incredibly harder to wear when you have to be outside in the hot spring air of Florida.

Regardless of the fact that it is at night, April was recorded to be one of the hottest months of the year in 2023. It has been such a crazy year for the weather patterns already, so what the exact whether will be on prom night is unpredictable.

Not only does the hot weather play a role, but also the rain. The radar can be completely clear and sunny one minute and then within the next hour there is a 100% chance of rain showing for the rest of the day.

If it does rain on the night prom is held, everyone is going to have to find a place to hide from it until it passes, or it may even cancel the dance completely. That would be especially upsetting for the seniors since it is their last prom.

Not to mention the hair. If you have a dress that has no straps or is lower cut in the front or back, it makes it hard to find a hairstyle that allows you to put your hair up.

With it being so hot outside, having your hair down would cause so many problems, including hair starting to stick to your back and neck. This makes for a very uncomfortable night.

At prom you want to look your best and be able to take all the pictures you want with your friends and your date, if you have one, and not be worried about anything else.

Since it will be an outside event, fireworks would be a very entertaining and perfect way to end the night. It stays on the theme of “luminous nights,” and can bring everyone together to end what is hopefully the perfect night.
