More and more clubs are dropping like flies in the Nest

Cape Coral High School is known to have numerous opportunities and extracurriculars for students to get involved in. It’s easy for everyone to find something to be a part of, but in recent years, clubs seem to be diminishing as a whole and being less active.

Up until this year, many clubs and honor societies were known for being involved as active members of the community and making huge contributions to the community. Whether it’s volunteering, giving scholarship opportunities, or putting on events these groups were known for doing a lot for the school and giving students a lot of options in terms of involvement.

As of this year, that doesn’t seem to be happening as much. The community of Cape Coral High School hasn’t been hearing as much about clubs, and students haven’t been as involved as previous graduating classes. While this is not the case for every club, this has been noticed for a majority.

Due to this trend, many upperclassmen fear that clubs and honor societies may cease to continue after they graduate. When seniors graduate, leadership positions for these activities are normally passed down and underclassmen who are usually in lower leadership positions will be prepared to take over in the upcoming years.

This year, however, there has been a lack of club participation by underclassmen, as most clubs are made up by a majority of the junior and senior classes. Specifically clubs and honor societies are at risk for ending, as this doesn’t seem to apply to all extracurricular activities. Sports and many arts seem to be thriving this year.

Mostly academic and service extracurriculars seem to be the lacking members recently. This plays into them not putting on as many activities and participating in the community as usual.

These clubs and honor societies diminishing is concerning for the school, since they will start disappearing when the upperclassmen graduate if new members don’t continue to join. Students in the upcoming years may lack as many opportunities to be a part of things they are interested in.

There is really only one solution to this, which is getting more underclassmen to join and be involved in different clubs and honor societies. A large reason for the current lack of this is that a lot of new coming students just don’t really know how many options they have in terms of things be involved in.

Clubs and honor societies can do things to advertise their events and show what being a member is like. This can be done by giving presentations to freshman classes, advertising events on social media, and making posters to put around the school. Attendance of all classes in these extracurriculars is crucial to making sure they continue to live on for following classes.
