Every Halloween, the same parade of black cats, devils, and cheetahs seem to flood the streets like clockwork. The problem’s not that they’re bad costumes, it’s that originality seems to have ghosted us. This year, let’s all retire the same tired looks and rise creativity from the dead.
We are all currently in the midst of spookiness, fall spirit, parties, candies, and most importantly costumes. Every year, stress surrounding what to wear and who be causes teens to enter a costume frenzy.
They go through a process of perfecting their costumes to show up and show out with every year. But yet, no matter how hard people try to be expressive and unique, they still somehow manage to do the same thing every year. It’s a tradition that never fails.
Everyone seems to be recycling the same 5 costumes every time. Any type of superhero, the devil and angel duo, any basic animals such as the “curious black cat” and cheetah, and the most overplayed that everyone seems to find hilarious, the lorax.
While you’re doomscrolling on social media looking for costumes, there’s always those types of people that come up with the idea of dressing up as superheroes. You guys constantly show up in baggy costumes and dreadful masks that barely even look like what you’re going for. If the costume doesn’t look like it came straight from the movie then just leave it up to the actual actors at this point.
I know there are some others out there that love to do matching costumes with their significant other or their friends. While obviously that is okay, what’s not okay is doing a duo costume as devil and angel. Anyone that even thinks about being an angel and devil we all know what type of person you are. It’s predictable and boring, you guys both need to retire this outfit together.
Anytime you show up to a party, you can guarantee that you’ll see at least 20 different versions of different animals. It’s exhausting just seeing basic animals like cats and cheetahs. You guys have no originality if you show up trying to be a “curious” black cat.
Literally all it takes is black shorts with some black eyeliner and whiskers. The black cat is the most recycled costume, that’s so overused. Every single year. Not only the cat but the cheetah as well. Yes, it’s cute and we all know it’s publicized everywhere now with that print, but let’s give it a rest
Last but not least, the lorax. While everything thinks it’s such a funny, quirky, cute idea, it’s honestly just getting tiring looking at it. It seems as if you guys are trying to be so unique and stand out when in reality that’s not quite what’s happening anymore. You guys just look like an orange highlighter and it’s time to shake it up.
It’s expected to see unique, creative, out of the ordinary costumes. But as of recent years it’s looking like we are just having a competition on who wore the same basic outfit as last year but better. This year, we all better see everyone pop out and show up with something new, that’s NOT some horns or cat ears.
